When I was little, I don’t remember bringing lunch to school very often, because my mom didn’t know how to make anything other than Korean food. I remember my first day into kindergarten I refused to eat the cafeteria food and my teacher yelled at me and left me alone in the cafeteria by myself. After that my parents really pushed me to eat the crap they gave us (so I wouldn’t be alone and isolated).
But whenever my mom did pack food, it was always such a big treat. One day she did, so early in the morning before going to work at 6:00 am. I opened the fridge and on my tupperware, I saw that she had time to draw me (what still is) my most favorite drawing to this day.
It was just a little post-it note, but on it she drew me as a princess, haha! She wrote that she loved me and that she hoped that I ate well. I thought it was the most beautiful drawing at the time. Heck, I still do. I still have it safely in a shoebox full of my favorite things back home. But I remember, seeing that beautiful drawing, it made me want to draw beautiful things too.
So yeah. I just remembered that little tidbit of my life and thought it’d be nice to share. I miss my mom.
